Kelly Matthews

Kelly M. Matthews is the Co‑Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of DMV Freedmen, where she plays a central role in shaping strategic direction, strengthening organizational infrastructure, and stewarding financial accountability. A founding member of the organization, she has been instrumental in DMV Freedmen’s development since day one; initially serving as CFO and a Producer, Writer, and Photographer for its media arm, By the People Media.

Kelly’s leadership is grounded in lineage pride, reparations advancement, and a deep commitment to empowering Black communities through civic engagement and public education. Her work with DMV Freedmen is driven by a strong sense of responsibility to help create a better, more just America for her children and grandchildren.

Professionally, Kelly is the owner and principal of MBA Services, LLC, an accounting firm she established in 2007 after more than 15 years working exclusively in the nonprofit sector. Through MBA Services, she provides nonprofits, small businesses, and entrepreneurs with high‑level financial management, organizational consulting, and structural development that position them for long‑term sustainability and impact.

Kelly holds an MSA in Administration, a BS in Accounting, a BA in Communication, and several professional certifications. She is also an active member of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) and the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).

In her expanded role at DMV Freedmen, Kelly looks forward to partnering closely with Co‑Executive Director Josh Gray as they guide the organization into its next chapter of community advocacy, civic service, and institutional growth.

She is proudly married and remains deeply rooted in family, legacy, and service.
